What floating rate means
A floating rate is a live estimate rather than a locked exchange result. Between the moment you view it and the time a provider receives enough blockchain confirmations, the market and the route's available liquidity can change.
That does not make a floating route unreliable; it makes its condition explicit. It can be appropriate where you understand that the result follows the market and you want the route to process at the available rate rather than wait for a fixed quote window.
What fixed rate means
A fixed route generally gives you a limited window to send a precise deposit amount. The route can then hold the quoted conversion subject to the provider's stated conditions. Read the countdown, the required network, and the amount carefully.
Fixed does not mean every part of crypto is risk-free. Your transaction still needs to reach the correct deposit address on the correct network, and a delayed or partial deposit may fall outside the route's terms. The review screen matters just as much as it does with a floating quote.
Choosing without guessing
Choose based on the conditions you understand, not on a label that sounds safer. Compare the stated output, time limit, minimum, network, and deposit instruction. If you cannot meet a fixed route's exact requirements, do not select it.
Market prices can move sharply in either direction. Neither mode predicts the market or guarantees that a trade will be profitable. This article explains route mechanics and is not financial advice.
The final check
Before sending, confirm whether your route says floating or fixed, then reread the amount and timer. Copy the deposit address from the active route; do not reuse an address from an earlier quote or a screenshot.
Keep the status link and transaction hash after sending. They provide the best record of what was quoted, when the deposit was detected, and how the route progresses.
